Hey EntreCard Where's My Cookie?

by Jeff 2/18/2008 12:05:00 AM

Did anyone else notice that the little link at the bottom of the EntreCard widget on other blogs now reads "Get One" instead of "Drop Yours"? It seems that a recent change now requires you to sign in everyday instead of always being able to drop your card with a single click. Is it just me or is anyone else noticing this? Perhaps it is an attempt to force everyone back to the EC website a little more frequently. I don't know about you guys, but I have seen enough server issues with EntreCard that would make me think twice about bringing more traffic to the website. Don't get me wrong, I love EntreCard. I just miss being able to visit my favorite blogs and casually drop my card with one click. Hey EntreCard, can't you make our cookies last a little longer?

They also changed the way the system receives clicks. Basically the whole downtime forced them to reinvent the system, which now works much faster, but different. Clicks are registered in batches and don't appear in realtime anymore. So its possible to get 301 drops in a day.

BTW, I have the same issues with a cookie there. I think it may have something to do with using multiple computers.

Hmmm, I joined Entrecard 5-6 days ago I've seen ''Get One'' twice. Once when I first joined, and two days ago when I did a clean up of my history/cache etc.

I like your slogan btw ''We CAN Make Money Online By Working Together''

I think I need to clean my history and delete my cookies. I saw something about that on the EntreCard forums. Hopefully that will help.

Hmm....I have been using a few different computers lately. We'll get to the bottom of this soon enough.

That happens to me sometimes, but I think that's because I have more than one account. Entrecard is making some changes, so that might have something to do with it too.

Since I have a few different accounts, even when I log into a different account, the email at the top stays the same despite the requirement that it has to be a different email address.

I heard from EntreCard about the problem. Their answer is the following:

"please set your browser to specifically allow cookies from amazonaws.com and entrecard.com
then refresh your cache by hitting control +shift + delete
then log back in.
that's our fix all solution to everything. it should work!"

Unfortunately it didn't help for me. I only have one account and did not change my browser settings or anything. Entrecard just stopped remembering my login info one day. Frown

I didn 't notice anything as I have my browser set up to clean all cookies and temporary files when it's shut down, so I have to login to EC everyday. Smile

I've noticed it on 1 of my accounts. I use 2 separate browsers so I don't have to keep logging into things but for 1 I have to no matter how many times I clean out the cookies and cache.

Hi Blueyes. Which browser is giving you the trouble? I have been using Internet Explorer (don't ask me why). I wonder if the problem is isolated to IE?

I think I have made an interesting discovery. There is a bug in IE7 that deletes session based cookies. I believe this is causing my issue with EntreCard. I have no idea why it just started out of the blue though.

So my quick fix is simple - use Firefox.
